AIRPORTS IN THE SYSTEM OF URBAN SETTLEMENT AND DEVELOPMENT

The article examines the significance of airports in the modern settlement system and their impact on the spatial organization of territories. It analyzes how the development of aviation infrastructure stimulates economic growth, urbanization, and the creation of new residential, commercial, and industrial zones. The influence of airports on the socio-economic development of adjacent areas is studied, focusing on changes in employment structure, migration processes, and urbanization. The importance of integrating airports into overall territorial planning strategies is emphasized to ensure balanced development, minimize environmental impacts, and improve the quality of life for residents. The article reviews modern approaches to airport planning and their integration into urban environments, including the implementation of innovative transport solutions and infrastructure development around airports. Special attention is given to the necessity of adapting existing urban planning practices to contemporary conditions and challenges of globalization. The prospects for airports as centers of economic activity are also discussed, highlighting their potential to drive local labor market growth, attract investments, and enhance urban transport systems. The study underscores the strategic role of airports in shaping settlement patterns by connecting local, regional, and global transportation networks. In particular, the environmental and social impacts of airports are considered, such as increased social tension caused by intensive urbanization and changes in the cost of living in surrounding areas. The article presents a comprehensive analysis of airports’ influence on urban and regional development, offering recommendations for their integration into strategic territorial planning while considering economic, social, and environmental aspects. This approach aims to ensure balanced territorial development, promote sustainable urban environments, and enhance resource utilization efficiency.
