THE ROLE OF UKRAINIAN AIRPORTS IN THE INTERMODAL TRANSPORTATION SYSTEM

Abstract

The article examines the prospects for the development of intermodal transportation involving cargo airports in Ukraine as a key element of modern transport infrastructure. A comprehensive analysis of the current state of the country’s transport and logistics system, in particular its ability to integrate air transport into multimodal logistics chains, is carried out. The main problems that impede the effective functioning of air cargo transportation are identified, in particular, the insufficient number of specialized cargo airports, the limited number of modern logistics terminals and the underdevelopment of transport and logistics clusters. The international experience of the leading cargo airports operating within the framework of global intermodal transportation, in particular in the USA, Europe and Asia, is considered. The main parameters that determine the efficiency of such facilities are highlighted, including transport accessibility, technological modernization, the level of digitalization of logistics processes and integration with other modes of transport. Based on the analysis, the author proposes a concept for creating a new cargo airport in Borodyanka, Kyiv region, as a promising logistics hub to increase the competitiveness of Ukraine’s transport system. The proposed concept envisages the use of modern technologies in the field of logistics, the introduction of digital platforms for cargo flow management and the development of the necessary infrastructure to ensure the fast and efficient integration of air transport into the overall cargo transportation system. To evaluate the effectiveness of involving cargo airports in the country’s transport system, the methods of structural modeling and vector optimization are used, which allow for rational allocation of resources and minimization of logistics costs. The economic and logistical advantages of implementing such solutions are substantiated, especially in the post-war period, when the restoration and development of transport infrastructure are critical for stabilizing the country’s economy and its integration into international trade flows.
